Awqaf Ministry unveils sports complex under public-private waqf partnership

Amman, July 29 (Petra) — Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs,
Mohammad Khalaileh, said the ministry has pursued a sustainable
development strategy to enhance and invest in waqf (Islamic
endowment) properties through implementing flagship projects,
rehabilitating numerous endowments and establishing effective
partnerships with the private sector.

Speaking on Wednesday evening at the opening of the Hikma Schools
Sports Complex, Khalaileh said the project represents a successful
model of genuine cooperation between the Ministry of Awqaf, through
the Endowment Funds Development Department (EFDD), and the private
sector.

He said the partnership reflects the ministry’s approach to
strengthening the developmental role of waqf investments and
directing them to serve the community, contributing to economic and
social development while providing educational and sports facilities
for future generations.

Khalaileh described the project as the first of a series of joint
initiatives aimed at reinforcing the role of waqf in supporting
education and serving society. He expressed appreciation to all
partners who contributed to completing the project and voiced hope
that it would become a model for future waqf-based development
projects.

For his part, Hikma Schools Director General Ihab Bali said the new
sports complex embodies the school’s vision of developing
well-rounded students who combine academic excellence, athletic
achievement and strong values.

He said the project is the result of a strategic partnership with the
Ministry of Awqaf, represented by the EFDD, which served as the
principal supporter of the initiative.

Bali added that the complex marks another step in the school’s
development and provides an integrated sports environment that will
help nurture students’ abilities and develop their character, in line
with Jordan’s modernization agenda and the directives of His Majesty
King Abdullah II to prepare a generation that is rooted in its
values, committed to the nation and equipped for the future.

Built on a seven-dunum waqf property opposite Independence Mall, the
complex includes swimming pools built to high standards, modern
football pitches and a range of integrated sports facilities designed
to provide students with a safe and stimulating environment to
develop their talents and skills while enriching their educational
experience through the integration of quality education and
professional-level sports infrastructure.
