Madrid, February 22 (QNA) – FC Barcelona reclaimed the top spot in La Liga following a 3-0 home victory over Levante on Sunday in the 25th round of the competition.
This marks the 20th win of the season for the Catalan side, bringing their tally to 61 points. They now sit one point ahead of their traditional rivals, Real Madrid, who dropped to second place.
Meanwhile, Levante remains frozen at 18 points, languishing in 19th place, second from the bottom of the table.
The scoring opened less than five minutes into the match through Marc Bernal. This was the second goal for the 18-year-old talent since returning from an injury that had sidelined him for over a year.
Dutchman Frenkie de Jong added the second goal in the 33rd minute, before substitute Fermin Lopez completed the trio in the 81st minute.
In another match, Sevilla defeated hosts Getafe 1-0, with Swiss midfielder Djibril Sow scoring the lone goal in the 64th minute. Sevilla capitalized on a numerical advantage following the 26th-minute dismissal of Getafe’s Togolese defender Djene Dakonam.
With this result, Sevilla moves up to 29 points, provisionally holding 11th place. They lead Getafe on goal difference, as both teams sit five points clear of the relegation zone, thereby bolstering their hopes of distancing themselves from the threat of relegation. (QNA)
