Amman, July 27 (Petra) – The Cabinet on Monday approved a series of
draft laws and regulations covering education, social protection,
justice, public administration, water security and investment,
referring several of them to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau to
complete the legislative process.

Among the key decisions was the approval of draft regulations
establishing Jordan’s first national classification system for
private schools.

Under the 2026 regulations, schools will be rated in six categories
based on performance indicators including educational quality, school
environment, human resources, innovation, leadership, governance and
community engagement.

Classifications will be reviewed every three years, published
publicly and displayed by schools to help parents make informed
choices.

The Cabinet approved a Social Protection and Welfare Fund bylaw,
creating a unified funding mechanism to support vulnerable groups,
strengthen coordination with donors and the private sector and
enhance financial oversight and accountability.

In the justice sector, the government approved a new system
regulating court experts, introducing accredited sworn experts,
electronic registration, annual accreditation and stronger oversight
to improve the quality and efficiency of judicial proceedings.

It endorsed amendments expanding the use of electronic procedures in
civil litigation.

Other decisions included new organisational bylaws for the Jordanian
Academy of Public Administration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
Expatriates and the Jordan Cooperative Corporation, alongside a new
classification system for nursing and midwifery professions.

The Cabinet also approved measures to advance the National Water
Carrier Project, including a $97 million financing agreement with the
French Development Agency (AFD) and steps to connect the project to
the national power grid.

Once completed, the $5.8 billion project is expected to supply about
40% of Jordan’s drinking water needs.

In addition, the Cabinet approved draft amendments to the Natural
Resources Law aimed at attracting investment in mining, oil, natural
gas, oil shale and critical minerals by simplifying procedures,
expanding incentives and establishing a fund to support exploration
and community development.
