Cairo Quadrilateral Meeting Highlights Regional Stability, Praises Qatar’s Role in Advancing US-Iran Talks

Cairo, June 21 (QNA) – A quadrilateral meeting held in Cairo on Sunday underscored the importance of promoting long-term regional stability and supporting the Palestinian cause as a pathway to peace, security and stability in the Middle East.

The meeting brought together Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud, Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

In a joint statement issued following the meeting, the ministers said the meeting provided an opportunity for an in-depth exchange of views on regional and international developments and reaffirmed the importance of continued consultation and coordination among the four countries in support of peace, security, stability and prosperity in the Middle East and the wider region.

Regarding recent regional developments, the ministers welcomed the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran on Thursday, describing it as a constructive step toward de-escalation and the resolution of a dispute that had posed significant risks to regional security and stability, as well as to energy markets, international maritime navigation routes, global supply chains and international trade.

The ministers commended the efforts undertaken by regional and international parties that contributed to facilitating the agreement, stressing the importance of the faithful implementation of the commitments undertaken by the concerned parties. They also praised Pakistan’s pivotal role in achieving what they described as a historic outcome, as well as the support provided by the State of Qatar in facilitating negotiations on the memorandum and helping bring them to a successful conclusion. The ministers further welcomed the continuation of close coordination with Pakistan on this important issue.

They underscored the importance of building on the current positive momentum and achieving a swift and successful conclusion to the next phase of negotiations aimed at reaching a lasting, viable and mutually acceptable solution to outstanding issues. They stressed that such efforts should take into account the concerns of countries across the region, particularly with regard to security and stability, thereby contributing to enhanced collective security and long-term regional stability.

The ministers reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause to achieving peace, security and stability in the Middle East, stressing that it remains at the core of efforts aimed at securing a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the region and constitutes a fundamental pillar of a stable and secure regional order. In this regard, particular attention was devoted to the humanitarian and political situation in the Gaza Strip, the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The ministers also reiterated their support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as an indispensable basis for achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the region, in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
