Merowe, March 30, 2026 (SUNA) – The Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Sudan, Mr. Xu Jian, commenced his visit to Northern State on Monday with a tour of Merowe locality, accompanied by embassy officials and a representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).The delegation, alongside state officials, reviewed fisheries projects at Lake Merowe Dam and examined the challenges facing fishermen.A joint meeting between the visiting Chinese delegation and the state government, held at the fruit and vegetable canning factory in Karima, commended China’s sustained partnerships and supportive initiatives for the Sudanese people.Particular praise was directed at arrangements for a Chinese-funded grant—implemented through FAO—aimed at promoting sustainable fisheries development in the Merowe and Nubia dam lakes. The project seeks to transition livelihoods beyond traditional production methods, enhance professional capacity, curb overfishing risks, and support social development and agricultural production.The delegation concluded its visit with a tour of the archaeological site of Jebel Barkal.BH/BH
