Khartoum, 13 March 2026 (SUNA) – The Ministry of Digital Transformation and Communications announced the availability of USSD technology starting early next week for the banking sector and banking applications, in coordination with the Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority and the Central Bank of Sudan (CBOS).This step, which comes within the directives of Minister of Digital Transformation and Communications Engineer Ahmed Dirdiri Ghandour, aims to expand the use of simple digital channels to enable citizens to access financial services through mobile phones, particularly in environments where internet connectivity or smart applications are unavailable, or when access to applications becomes difficult during peak times. The first phase of services will include several basic financial operations such as bank transfers between individuals, balance inquiries, and viewing transaction summaries. The ministry affirmed that this initiative comes as part of its efforts to establish a regulatory and technical environment that supports the expansion of digital financial services, enhances financial inclusion, and facilitates family support programs by leveraging the widespread use of mobile phones in Sudan. It also explained that the launch of these services is being carried out in coordination with partners in the telecommunications and banking sectors, while service providers will announce the operational details and related services according to their respective mandates.BH/BH
