Governor of Darfur Region Meets British Delegation

Port Sudan, Jan. 28, 2026 (SUNA) – The Governor of the Darfur Region, Commander Minni Arko Minnawi, met Wednesday with a high-level British delegation led by Rear Admiral Edward Ahlgren, Senior Military Advisor for the Middle East and North Africa at the UK Ministry of Defence. The delegation included British Special Envoy for Sudan Richard Crowder and the British Military Attaché in Cairo.Governor Minnawi briefed the delegation on the security situation in Sudan and Darfur, emphasizing that peace talks require the withdrawal of the Al-Dagalo militia from cities and state institutions, cessation of civilian abuses, and the restoration of police and governance before any ceasefire or truce can succeed. He warned that continued support for the militia by certain states, notably the United Arab Emirates (UAE), undermines peace efforts.Crowder affirmed the UK’s support for Sudan’s security, stability, restoration of services, and development. He expressed regret for the humanitarian impact of the conflict and called for international coordination, including US, UN, European, and African Union efforts, to end hostilities. He also noted the UK will assume the UN Security Council presidency next month and host a joint conference with Germany in April to support Sudan.FA/BH
