Khartoum, March 10, 2026 (SUNA) – The High Committee tasked with preparing the conditions for citizens’ return to Khartoum State, chaired by Prime Minister Kamil Idris, issued a series of directives during its meeting held Tuesday afternoon in Khartoum.At the outset, the committee expressed strong appreciation to Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Engineer Ibrahim Jabir for leading the committee under exceptional circumstances and for the considerable efforts that contributed to restoring life to Khartoum State.The meeting reviewed achievements made during the past period and assessed progress across the committee’s various areas of work.The committee directed preparations to receive returning citizens from abroad—particularly those returning from Egypt—and called for coordinating and unifying official and popular initiatives supporting voluntary return programs.The committee also noted Egypt’s approval to increase electricity interconnection with Sudan and instructed authorities to complete lighting of main roads across Khartoum State and ensure electricity supply to strategic and service facilities, in addition to residential neighborhoods, to encourage voluntary return to the national capital.The High Committee also directed the urgent provision of heavy-duty transformers and the immediate connection of those transformers already distributed.The committee commended the efforts of the Khartoum State Water Corporation during the past period and instructed that its urgent needs be identified and provided in coordination with the Ministry of Finance.The meeting stressed the need to advance a project to eradicate flies and mosquitoes alongside malaria control efforts. It also affirmed that the sewerage system project is a national priority and among the foremost priorities of the Government of Hope.The committee reviewed a report on the rehabilitation of Khartoum International Airport and praised the substantial progress achieved in restoring the facility.The committee also thoroughly discussed the rehabilitation of several bridges in the capital and directed that the maintenance and rehabilitation plans be urgently presented through an integrated tendering process, in accordance with legal procedures, to select the most qualified companies. Actual work is scheduled to commence after Eid Al-Fitr.The committee further directed the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company to rehabilitate 60 schools in Khartoum State. The Ministry of Energy was tasked with maintaining 30 schools, while the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Welfare was assigned responsibility for rehabilitating another 30 schools.The meeting also reviewed arrangements for the postponed 2025 Sudanese Secondary School Certificate examinations, confirming they will be held as scheduled on April 13, 2026.The committee underscored the importance of the media in raising awareness and supporting social development, directing the Ministry of Culture and Information to identify its urgent needs in preparation for providing the necessary support.BH/BH
