Khartoum, Jan. 28, 2026 (SUNA) – The Chinese Embassy in Sudan pledged $10,000 to assist Khartoum in combating epidemics, reaffirming its commitment to bilateral cooperation in health, Chargé d’Affaires Xu Jian said Wednesday.The announcement came during a meeting with Sudan’s Federal Ministry of Health Undersecretary Dr. Ali Babiker, who discussed post-war reconstruction of the health sector with the Chinese delegation in the presence of Ministry leadership.Dr. Babiker revealed that losses in the health sector due to deliberate militia sabotage are estimated at $11 billion. He outlined a five-year reconstruction plan (2026–2030) to restore services in Khartoum, Gezira, and Sennar, and called for support to rehabilitate Friendship Hospitals damaged during the conflict.Ministry officials also requested Chinese assistance to restart the Shanghai-Sudan pharmaceutical factory, expand investment in the pharmaceutical sector, establish medical cities, and provide training and expertise exchange.Xu Jian expressed China’s interest in supporting health initiatives, including malaria control, and confirmed China’s readiness to cooperate in multiple fields.FA/BH
