Khartoum Environment Council Stresses the Importance of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments for New Projects

Khartoum, March 15, 2026 (SUNA) — The Supreme Council for Environment and Urban and Rural Development – Khartoum State has underscored the importance of conducting environmental and social impact assessment studies for new projects across the state. The council also stressed the need to comply with environmental requirements for any project or activity implemented within Khartoum State. The council noted that such assessments should be carried out through qualified consulting offices accredited by the Supreme Council for Environment.The Secretary-General of the council, Ghada Hussein Al-Awad, during a briefing meeting held in Khartoum on Sunday, called for the preparation of an urgent plan to conduct environmental and social impact assessments for mining projects in the state in order to avoid negative environmental consequences.She also stressed the importance of incorporating environmental awareness and media programs, as well as producing awareness messages through various platforms and organizing outreach initiatives with communities benefiting from such projects.BH/BH
