Minister of Justice Stresses Need to Curb Illegal Money Collection to Fight Corruption

Khartoum, Jan. 28, 2026 (SUNA) – Minister of Justice Dr. Abdullah Dirif said the Committee to Prevent Illegal Money Collection, formed under Cabinet Resolution No. 154 of 2025, has completed its administrative and operational arrangements and has begun implementing its mandate.Dirif, who chairs the committee, said it includes all relevant authorities and is mandated to review the legality of state-imposed fees on goods and services, address legislative overlaps between federal and state levels, dismantle illegal collection points on national highways, combat tax evasion and corruption, and prevent off-budget collection nationwide.He said the committee will begin field visits to the states on Feb. 1, starting with the eastern sector comprising Red Sea, Kassala and Al-Gadarif states, followed by the northern sector, including River Nile and Northern states, before extending to remaining states.Dirif underscored that electronic collection enhances transparency, helps curb corruption, protects public funds and safeguards citizens’ rights, adding that it aligns with the state’s digital transformation policy.FA/BH
