Amman, July 30 (Petra) –Ministry of Water and Irrigation/Water
Authority of Jordan (WAJ), in cooperation with relevant authorities,
has uncovered new violations that involved water pipelines illegally
siphoning off quantities to fill tankers in Al Muwaqqar district,
south of Amman, while thefts in Karak governorate supplied
agricultural ponds and sheep farms.

In a statement issued Thursday, the ministry said the campaign
detected several violations involving 300 and 400 mm diameter
pipelines illegally drawing water to fill tankers in Al Muwaqqar
region.

In Karak, 5 violations involved fixtures to fill “large” ponds with a
capacity of 500 cubic meters and a large sheep farm. These violations
were dismantled and the necessary reports were filed.

The ministry affirmed its commitment to fulfilling its duty to
citizens and protecting their water rights, in accordance with the
law.

Commending the citizens’ cooperation, the ministry hailed support of
the Ministry of Interior, the Public Security Directorate, and the
Judicial Council during the crackdown conducted to protect Jordan’s
water resources.
