Minnawi Meets Acting Head of OCHA in Geneva

Geneva, March 30, 2026 (SUNA) – As part of a series of high-level engagements in Geneva, Governor of Darfur Region Minni Arko Minnawi met with Ms. Gemma Connell, Acting Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).The meeting reviewed humanitarian developments in Sudan, particularly in Darfur, and explored ways to strengthen coordination to improve response efforts.The Governor Minnawi commended OCHA’s role and field leadership, reaffirming the government’s commitment to facilitating humanitarian access, including logistical arrangements and opening corridors.He outlined the severe humanitarian challenges resulting from ongoing militia violations against civilians and the systematic targeting of aid convoys, stressing the urgent need to meet the growing needs of displaced populations and improve aid distribution mechanisms.He also called for a review of the use of the Adre crossing, citing concerns over its exploitation for military purposes and associated logistical challenges, while pointing to more effective alternatives.Ms. Connell reaffirmed OCHA’s commitment to sustaining humanitarian operations despite funding constraints, stressing the importance of enhanced coordination, accelerated resource allocation, and support for local actors.Both sides underscored the importance of continued cooperation to strengthen humanitarian response efforts in Sudan, particularly in Darfur.BH/BH
