Emirati field hospital in Chad extends medical services to over 12,367 patients

AMDJARASS, 1st November, 2023 (WAM) — Sudanese refugees in Chad, along with members of the local community in the city of Amdjarass, flocked to the Emirati field hospital in Amdjarass to seek its medical services.

Since its inauguration on 9th July 2022, the hospital has treated over 12,367 cases, comprising children, the elderly, men and women from both the Sudanese refugees and Chadian locals. Among these cases, 4,789 were male, 3,850 were female, and 3,728 were children.

The hospital’s medical team has successfully performed more than 178 surgical procedures, ranging from minor to major operations.

The field hospital was established under the guidance of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and it operates through the collaboration of three UAE humanitarian organisations: the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation (ZHF) and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, in coordination with UAE’s Aid Coordination Office.

This humanitarian, relief and medical support is being extended to Sudanese refugees affected by the current crisis in their country and aims to assist Chad in dealing with the humanitarian impact of the large influx of refugees.

The hospital covers an area of 200 square metres and has a capacity of 50 beds, expandable to double that number. It operates around the clock, with an entire medical team with various specialities, including dozens of doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and experienced and highly skilled technicians.

The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art medical devices, essential medical equipment, and modern medications for the treatment of patients.

Additionally, the field hospital’s mobile clinics continue their rounds in Amdjarass, as well as surrounding villages and towns, providing medical services to patients who cannot reach the Emirati field hospital.

The medical team accompanying the mobile clinics diagnoses and treats medical conditions and prescribes medications as needed. Cases requiring specialist treatment or surgical procedures are transported to the field hospital in Amdjarass for comprehensive medical care and ongoing monitoring until complete recovery.
