Rafah Closure Delays Medical Evacuations, Gaza Ministry Warns

Amman, Oct. 8 (Petra) – The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza
warned Thursday that the continued, unjustified closure of the Rafah
crossing is delaying medical evacuations and preventing dozens of
critically ill and wounded patients from leaving the enclave during
the three days allocated each week for such transfers.

The ministry said Israeli authorities continue to keep the crossing
closed to patients and wounded people who meet evacuation criteria
and have already been placed on approved travel lists.

It added that the delays are compounding the hardship of patients who
have waited weeks to secure the required medical and security
clearances.

The ministry said repeated disruptions pose particular risks to
patients with cancer, kidney failure, and severe injuries, adding
that each day of delay can reduce treatment options and prospects for
recovery.

It noted that the closure is placing additional pressure on Gaza’s
already strained hospitals, which are struggling to treat patients
who require specialized care outside the Strip.

The ministry called on UN agencies and human rights organizations to
press for the sustained reopening of the crossing and the unhindered
evacuation of urgent medical cases.
