Dongola, Feb. 1, 2026 (SUNA) – The Secretary-General of the Northern State Government, Mahjoub Mohamed Sidahmed, who is performing the duties of the State Wali, met today in his office with a delegation from United Nations organizations. The delegation was led by the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Ms. Denise Brown, and attended by the Secretary-General of Social Affairs, Manal Makawi, and the representative of the Humanitarian Aid Commission in the state.Manal Makawi explained that the visit by the UN delegation aims to assess humanitarian needs and enhance UN interventions amid the exceptional circumstances facing the country. She highlighted the escalating humanitarian challenges resulting from the Rapid Support Forces’ rebellion against the Armed Forces, stressing the importance of urgent support from UN organizations.The delegation received a detailed report from the acting Commissioner of Humanitarian Aid and the Secretary of Social Affairs, outlining the scale of humanitarian interventions implemented so far and the most pressing priority needs.Manal Makawi affirmed that the Northern State government hopes the visit will result in significant, qualitative interventions and help convey the country’s humanitarian reality to the international community. She noted that the delegation’s programme includes meetings with humanitarian partners and a visit to Al-Affadh camp in Al-Dabba locality.She also expressed appreciation to Ms. Denise Brown for her attention to the challenges faced by communities in Northern State amid the ongoing national crisis.AS/BH
