Pretoria, March 27, 2026 (SUNA) – Minister of Energy, Eng. Al-Mua’tasim Ibrahim Ali, met with South Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr Kgosientsho David Ramokgopa, to discuss avenues of bilateral cooperation in the energy and electricity sectors, reaffirming the longstanding historic ties between the two countries.The two sides agreed to sign memoranda of understanding to formalize cooperation and intensify coordination to support Sudan during its reconstruction phase.The meeting took place at the residence of the Sudanese Ambassador in Pretoria on Thursday, attended by State Minister of Finance, Mohamed Nour Al-Da’im, and Sudanese Ambassador to South Africa, Osman Abu Fatma Adam.Minister Al-Mua’tasim praised the enduring historical relations between Sudan and South Africa, particularly in mining, energy, the introduction of prepaid electricity meters, and collaboration with South Africa’s state electricity company, Eskom, one of the largest energy producers in Africa.He emphasized Sudan’s interest in enhancing joint cooperation in training, knowledge exchange, technology transfer, institutional support, participation in regional and international conferences in South Africa, senior-level visits, and the establishment of frameworks for joint cooperationMinister Ramokgopa welcomed the development and strengthening of relations with Sudan in the energy and electricity sectors, noting Eskom’s readiness to assist Sudanese authorities in building capacity in electricity generation and distribution, ensuring stable power supply, implementing smart applications for monitoring consumption and billing, and providing training and experience-sharing opportunities.BH/BH
