Geneva, Jan. 28, 2025 (SUNA) – Sudan on Tuesday signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide a $10 million grant to support water projects for war-affected communities in Sudan.The MoU was signed by Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid, on behalf of the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning. The Saudi side was represented by Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Fund for Development Dr. Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Murshid, while UNHCR signed as the implementing agency. The signing took place at the Permanent Mission of Saudi Arabia in Geneva.The agreement aims to rehabilitate and expand water networks in several war-affected areas, including improving water supply in Khartoum, rehabilitating facilities powered by solar energy, and strengthening technical capacities to enhance access to clean water and reduce health risks.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed Sudan’s appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continued support to stability and reconstruction efforts.BH/BH
