Geneva, 16 January 2025 (SUNA) – As part of the efforts by Sudan’s Permanent Mission in Geneva to promote the government’s peace initiative and explain its provisions, Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid received on Friday at his office Ms. Hazel de Neve, Deputy Executive Director and Director of the UNICEF Office in Geneva, along with her assistant, Ms. Anastazia.Ambassador Hamid reviewed the provisions of the initiative, noting that following its submission by the Prime Minister, Professor Kamil Idris, it has received acceptance and welcome from the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the African Union, the Arab League, the Conference of the Great Lakes Countries, and several countries on a bilateral level. He also expressed the Sudanese government’s appreciation for the valued role that UNICEF plays through its country office in Sudan.For her part, the UNICEF Director welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the importance of supporting any efforts toward restoring peace amid rising humanitarian needs worldwide and the reluctance of donor countries to fund humanitarian response plans. She confirmed that UNICEF, through its country office in Sudan, will continue to provide all possible assistance to those affected.BH/BH
