Khartoum, Jan. 24, 2026 (SUNA) – Under the patronage of the Wali of Khartoum State, Ahmed Othman Hamza, the General Union of Sudanese Women (GUSW) in Khartoum organized a forum on Saturday in East Nile locality for union heads across localities and sectors. The event, held under the slogan “The Return to Khartoum: Challenges and Outcomes,” was attended by Member of Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Dr. Salma Abdel-Jabbar Al-Mubarak, state government officials, security representatives, and GUSW members. Dr. Salma praised the Khartoum State government for restoring basic services and creating conditions for citizens’ return after nearly three years of disruption caused by the war. She commended the Wali’s initiative to establish women’s markets, describing it as a catalyst for tourism and a platform to showcase Sudanese heritage. She emphasized that addressing women’s issues remains a priority for the federal government and the Sovereignty Council, noting women as central partners in societal development. Highlighting the return of the Hope Government to Khartoum, Dr. Salma said this enables direct advocacy for women, skill development, and preservation of Sudanese culture. She also called for continued support for the Armed Forces and all forces involved in the Battle of Dignity to reclaim the national territory. Wali Ahmed Othman Hamza honoured the martyrs of the Battle of Dignity, wished the wounded a speedy recovery, and praised the steadfastness of Sudanese women in supporting the battle—through aid, care for the injured, and resilience despite abuses by rebel militias. He underscored women’s historic contributions to Sudan’s struggle and stressed their role in post-war recovery, including addressing psychological and social impacts, restoring livelihoods, and advocating internationally against militia violations. He directed the Ministry of Social Development to implement programmes for survivors, return abducted women, support income recovery, and create opportunities for working women via unions and specialized organizations. The Head of the General Union of Sudanese Women, Ahlam Ahmed Babiker, underscored women’s steadfast support for the Armed Forces during the Battle of Dignity, including their efforts in organizing humanitarian aid for affected families. She commended the state government for restoring public services and urged women to return to Khartoum to actively contribute to reconstruction efforts and the strengthening of the national economy.FA/BH
