Port Sudan, January 24, 2026 (SUNA) — As part of its visit to Sudan, a Turkish media delegation met with the Attorney General of the Republic of Sudan, Chair of the National Committee for the Investigation of Crimes and Violations of National Law and International Humanitarian Law, at the headquarters of the Public Prosecution.The delegation included representatives of leading Turkish media outlets, among them TRT Arabic, Anadolu Agency, TRT News, TRT World, DIGITAL Group, and CNN Türk. Several members of the National Committee attended the meeting.During the briefing, the Attorney General outlined the committee’s mandate to pursue perpetrators of crimes and violations under national and international humanitarian law, underscoring its neutrality and independence. She reported that the committee has so far registered 188,405 criminal cases, some of which have been referred to competent courts, with verdicts already issued in a number of cases.She noted that 122 foreign mercenaries of various nationalities are among the defendants, with death sentences handed down against some of them. The Attorney General also stated that the committee has obtained material evidence proving the involvement of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in supporting the rebel forces, as well as the complicity of certain countries that allowed the transit of weapons and military equipment through their shared borders with Sudan.The briefing highlighted systematic sexual violence committed by the rebel forces, particularly against underage girls, including cases of rape carried out in front of victims’ families. She also addressed the the recruitment and deployment of children in combat, noting that the Sudanese government, through the International Committee of the Red Cross, has handed over 135 children to their families after their capture during military operations.The Attorney General further detailed the atrocities committed against the Massalit community in El-Geneina, and violations against unarmed civilians in El-Fashir, including militia attacks on hospitals and the killing of patients and caregivers following the city’s incursion. She also referred to attacks on civilians in Kadugli and Al-Dalang that killed around 114 people, mostly women and children, including an assault on a building housing a kindergarten during a graduation ceremony.She also cited widespread attacks on infrastructure and civilian institutions, accompanied by looting and theft, including the plundering of Sudanese museums.Members of the Turkish media delegation expressed their appreciation to the Attorney General and the National Committee, commending the comprehensive briefing and the detailed explanations provided on the investigations and accountability efforts.BH/BH
